Country Music From New Jersey?????

During a live radio interview with KIKK FM in Los Angeles I remember laughing to myself as I attempted to emulate this "country" singer character for the benefit of my record label, Seaside Records, who was spending a few bucks to promote me as "Tom Stone" on radio stations around the world. ( folks used to call me "Stone" during my Navy days... we thought it might "stick" better than "Chelston") Ironically, my release was the EXACT week that  "Doug Stone" ( a real country crooner) had his debut on the racks.

Several of these songs are demos of songs written for the record and a couple of them reached the Gavin charts but only for a blink of time. The experience was fun and I was approached by a bigger label but couldn't go on  playing make believe as a country singer. I remember buying a pair of "Roughout" boots for my big "label" meeting in L.A. and thinking about how ridiculous it all was. Country from Jersey!

I'm In A Mess With The I.R.S. (charted top 100 and became popular overseas too) I remember trying to nail the guitar lead for this song in the studio and after several lame attempts, the engineer asked if I would let him try it. I was thinking, who is this guy to think he's good enough. Of course after he NAILED it on the first take, I learned he was Terry Wilson of the "Ozark Mountain Daredevils" see liner note belowA Change In Me (Charted briefly and played in America and Europe) I recorded this entirely in my bedroom and mastered it at Star Force Studios in Anaheim. I remember the first time I heard it on the radio in Los Angeles. I was proud to call my friends and say "Turn Your Radio On"Unemployment Line (Charted in America and Europe) Another fine musician was Marty Rifkin who layed the steel guitar tracks. We ended up on another album a few years later and I would love to work with him again. Marty brought "Nashville" to Los Angeles. see liner note below
She's Tired Of Crying (Written for "Cheryl" as I watched her stand up to an abusive husband and take her life back)Drivin' You Outta My Mind ( If you don't have something nice to say.....)Walk Away (ditto on the "something nice to say" thing, I warned you: I'm From Jersey)
Livin' In Your Own Little World (First signs of the cracks in my first marriage)Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain (My Version of the Willie Nelson Classic)"Blue Eyes" again but this time channeled through Georgie Jessel
Bruce Fanta was a good friend and business partner
